Heba Salah, Researcher and Interpreter at Egypt’s Dar al-Ifta and Founder of “Women’s Voices for Peace” Initiative to Break Social Stereotypes for Women in Arab Societies.

To break the unjust stereotypes chaining women in Arab societies in the name of religion, Heba Salah launched her initiative Women’s Voice for Peace in September 2019, as part of the Arab Fellowship Program, under the auspices of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue – KAICIID.

Heba Salah believes that to accomplish Goal 5: Achieve gender equality for the 2030 Sustainable Development, society needs to liberate its concepts and get rid of the misconceptions it adopts in the name of religion, such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), depriving girls from education and work, sexual harassment, child marriage, disinheriting women and other issues.

Heba’s mother is her role model, motivator and her first and everlasting inspiration. A woman who raised four daughters with a smile and kind words. She gave them what was needed to continue her journey.

Born in Cairo, Heba graduated from the Faculty of Al-Alsun, Department of English, Ain Shams University. She obtained a diploma in media and literary translation from the AUC. In 2018, she obtained her Master’s degree in Gender and Development, Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University.

About Women’s Voice for Peace Initiative, Heba says, “My personal initiative [is] to remind myself that goodness prevails through kind words, provided we are able to figure out our shortcomings.”
